Green signal will be the carmaker’s third plant in the state.

Maruti Suzuki India received official governmental clearance to set up a new manufacturing plant in the state of Haryana. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that the company has been given clearance to set up a new plant on 900 acres of land at Kharkhoda in the Sonepat district. This will be the carmaker’s third plant in the state.

Maruti Suzuki India’s two existing plants at Gurgaon and Manesar in Haryana have a combined manufacturing capacity of 1,580,000 units while the Suzuki Motor Gujarat plant has 500,000 units capacity per annum. This adds up to a little over 2 million units per annum (2,080,000). All put together, the three plants’ monthly production is estimated at a little over 173,000 units. Maruti Suzuki’s rival, Hyundai Motor India has an installed capacity of 750,000 units at its two plants in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu.

Maruti Suzuki India witnessed reduced production in September and October 2021, mainly due to the semiconductor crisis, which has impacted smooth production at its plants. It is estimated that Maruti Suzuki could not produce an estimated 116,000 vehicles during the quarter ended September 2021 (Q2 FY2022: July-September) due to the electronics components shortage.

In October 2021, the carmaker produced a total of 130,763 units, down 26% YoY (October 2020: 176,942). However, In the seven-month April-October 2021 period, cumulative production numbers are 848,988 units, up 37% YoY (April-October 2020: 618,464).

On the sales front, though its October 2021 sales were down 33% YoY, cumulative April-October 2021 sales at 702,083 units is 19.53% up on year-ago sales of 587,345 units.

Maruti Suzuki’s existing plants at Gurgaon and Manesar in Haryana have a combined manufacturing capacity of 1,580,000 units while the Suzuki Motor Gujarat plant has 500,000 units capacity.
