Detroit Engineered Products (DEP) showcases electric scooter technology demonstrator at Auto Expo 2020 – Components

February 6, 2020 4:15 pm

Detroit Engineered Product (DEP) displayed its latest electric scooter technology demonstrator at the Auto Expo 2020 – Components in New Delhi recently. Developed by the company’s Design Development team, the demonstrator is helping DEP establish its technological mastery in the electric scooter market. DEP’s design team has used an existing conventional vehicle.retrofitted with an electric power train. The exterior body panels have been restyled for aerodynamic performance and have been given a styling and engineered design that is optimised to give the lowest drag.

Radha Krishnan, Founder and President, DEP said, “The new e-scooter has been built to provide a riding range of 150 km. It has four removable batteries with a capacity of 4 KWh and the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 60 km in 7 seconds with a maximum vehicle speed of 80 km/hour. The battery capacity will enable the scooter to run for a week with an average travel distance of 25 km a day. Since the batteries are detachable, they can be removed easily and recharged at home. This takes away the need for setting up electric charging points either at home or in public space. The entire outer panel will be coated with flexible solar panels which will give users an extra 25 per cent mileage.”

The electric scooter includes several innovative features such as:
●Removable batteries, which eliminates the key issue of having an electric point for battery charging readily available
●Extended range of 150 km, which addresses the problem that many e-scooters face with limited range
●A next-generation user-friendly dashboard where the rear-view cameras and proximity sensor is integrated within the dashboard itself
●Improved lithium-ion battery pack capacity of 4 KWh
●Vehicle speed from 0 to 60 Km/h in 7 seconds, with a vehicle max speed of 80 km/h

EV/HEV initiatives face multiple design challenges because of increasing dependency on electrical components and overall complexity, coupled with short design cycles. DEP’s product development team is equipped with the capabilities to address these issues, and by using frugal engineering principles can ensure that innovative and exciting technology can be made available to users at affordable prices.
