Efficient solution for 5-sided milling

November 25, 2015 5:10 pm

For the 5-sided machining of parts ranging from the very simple to the highly complex, DMG MORI is offering ecoMill 50 and ecoMill 70
The ecoMill 70 with its longer travel paths and powerful 12,000 spindles carries on the proven concept of 5-sided machining for quality-orientated users with a moderate budget. Following the success of the ecoMill 50, DMG MORI is now also offering a universal genius in its entry-level segment with its ecoMill 70, which allows accurate and efficient machining of large, complex workpieces with its considerably longer travel paths of 750, 600 and 520 mm in X / Y / Z.
Since its launch in the year 2010 the ecoMill 50 has impressed users as a universal genius with its NC swivel rotary table for the 5-sided machining of simple to highly complex workpieces. Dr Michael Budt, Managing Director of DMG MORI ECOLINE AG says, “Our decision to develop the ecoMill 70 as the second universal milling machine for larger workpieces is a direct response to the specific demands of our customers for an expanded machining spectrum.”
The key to precisionThe patented NC swivel rotary table included in the standard version of the ecoMill 70 with its workpiece mounting surface of Ø 800 x 620 mm can handle loads up to 350 kg. Its B-axis swivel range is from (-) 10 degree to (+) 95 degree. The ecoMill 50 is equipped with a NC rotary table measuring Ø 630 x 500 mm and suitable for workpieces of up to 200 kg. The B-axis Swivel range is from (-) 5 degree to (+) 110 degree. The hydraulic table clamp and digital drives of the ecoMill 50 and ecoMill 70 enable highly accurate machining even under difficult metal cutting conditions. This feature is particularly noticeable in the accurate shape and position tolerances of opposing boreholes. The optional direct measuring system and centrally lubricated re-circulating roller guides ensure a high degree of accuracy in this respect.
The user can achieve optimum milling results with the powerful 12,000-rpm spindle being a standard feature of both the ecoMill 50 and the ecoMill 70. In addition, the chain version of its tool changer that is equipped with quivers and double gripper and space for 32 tools (SK40) in standard in case of ecoMill 70 and 16 tools in case of ecoMill 50 in standard (32 optionally) ensures a reduction in tooling times. Moreover, the ecoMill series can also be equipped with an optional 3D quickset for digital control and correction of the machine kinematics and made ready for automation.
First Quality for ECOLINE machinesWith the First Quality ECOLINE ensures reliability thanks to use of robust components for 24*7 use in a production unit. “100 hours quality inspection including milling and turning before delivery of each machine and acceptance of new product developments by quality auditors after intensive field trials bring the highest reliability to the customer,” DMG claims. Furthermore, now all ECOLINE machines are with extended warranty for components and services already in standard.
