Metal forming machine tools industry in India today has become the back bone of automobile sectors and engineering industries. The new upcoming infrastructure and architectural projects are also utilising the metal forming machine tools to make the structures from imported and locally procure draw material. This is contributing to a major component of the growth and development of the metal forming machine tools industry in India.
“We believe that the ‘Make in India’ initiative by our prime minister is supporting our industry to ramp the capacity to be at par with global industry,” says Utkarsh Landekar, Head Marketing Services, Messer Cutting Systems India Pvt Ltd.
Messer helps Indian industries to be at par with global standardsThe current metal forming machine tools industry is trying to compete globally in terms of the throughput using advance imported equipment, material and techniques. The Indian improvisation is also aiding the industries to be at global standard with better pricing.
Talking about whether metal forming machine tools industry in India is at par with global standard, Landekar says, “We at Messer are helping Indian industries with German engineered machine tools at Indian price to be at par with global benchmarking of technology and quality.”
Opportunities and challengesThe current metal forming machine tools industry is trying to compete globally, the opportunities are immense for the domestic sector.
Speaking on the opportunities and challenges, Landekar says, “The opportunities of exporting to countries that are deficient in terms of manufacturing technologies definitely exist. By having latest technology equipment Indian industries can win over the global competition. The challenges for this industry are global slowdown, falling crude prices which will slow the demand of the finished products. Even if the industry will ramp up its capacity there is deficiency of skilled manpower to utilise these machine tools and produce world-class products. Another issue is the speed of clearance of the Infra project can lead to several challenges for this industry.”
