Henkel fosters Food Safety

  Henkel Adhesive Technologies India Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Henkel AG and Co. KGaA, organised an industry gathering on the “Role of Flexible Packaging in Food Safety” in association with Siegwerk group in Mumbai, on February 3rd. Henkel and Seigwerk used the event to impart knowledge on the best practices that the flexible packaging ecosystem needs to adopt in order to ensure food safety; thus, ensuring customer satisfaction.
The event had the participation and collaborative approach from end-to-end stakeholders within the food packaging value chain. FMCG companies such as Mondelez International, Mother Dairy, Kellogg’s and Parle and packaging giants such as Huhtamaki, Amcor and Constantia, and other stakeholders from the flexible packaging ecosystem, were also a part of the event.
A flexible pack mainly contains films, inks, adhesives and coatings, amongst others, and each of these components contribute to food safety. Flexible laminates comprise different layers; each of these layers has a different function. Speakers from different companies highlighted the need to increase awareness on food safety among stakeholders of the packaging ecosystem. They also underscored the need for communication and use of food safe formulations across the supply chain in order to comply with regulations and ensure that the end product packaging is food safe.
Corbett Wallace, Regional Business Director – Packaging, Consumer Goods and Construction Adhesives, IMEA said, “Over the next 5 years the flexible packaging market in India is expected to witness a healthy double digit growth rate, as per market research reports. With ever-changing consumer preferences, organised retail chain formats and the changing dynamics of the population, there is significant growth being predicted in the Indian packaging industry, and the consequent upsurge in demand for modern packaging methods.”
“At Henkel, we provide and work with all stakeholders for a comprehensive food safe packaging solutions covering right from product development, customer trainings, technical support, product safety and regulatory affairs advice aimed at providing a holistic approach and sustainable solutions to the food safety agenda,” he added.
S Sunil Kumar, Business Director – Packaging, Consumer Goods and Construction Adhesives, Henkel Adhesive Technologies, India, said, “Today, stakeholders including raw material suppliers, brand owners, packaging experts  and the end-consumers are giving ‘packaging’ a major space on their food processing quality checklist. The main objective of this seminar was to get all the stakeholders together to better understand the role played by each stakeholder within the value chain and how we can collaborate more, share knowledge and work together to drive the food safety agenda strongly, both as stakeholders and actual consumers.”
